GENERAL

What operating systems does Apeer support?
Apeer currently supports Windows XP and Vista and we are currently working on a Mac version
Do I have to be logged in to use Apeer?
No — Apeer can be used for media viewing and playing even when you are not logged in. You cannot connect with others in Apeer without being logged in.
Can I download more than one copy of the Apeer software?
Yes — when you purchase a subscription to the Apeer service, you receive one login (your email address). With your login you may download as many copies of the Apeer software as you like on as many computers as you like.
Does Apeer have an installer?
Yes — and the download and installation takes only about 2 minutes before Apeer is ready to use.
Does Apeer launch automatically?
Yes — Apeer will automatically launch when you start (or restart) your computer.
Does Apeer automatically log me in to the Apeer network?
Yes — this is a preference setting in Apeer and is the best way for you to show as available to your network of Apeer contacts so that they can easily and instantly invite you to connect in Apeer.
Can I be logged in to Apeer on more than one computer at a time?
No — each user name allows only one connection to the Apeer service.
Is Apeer a Web browser-based application?
No — Apeer is a light stand alone application, which means that Apeer operates freely and robustly outside the technical constraints of Web browser-based applications.

CONNECTING

Are Apeer sessions secure?
Yes — files can optionally be sent encrypted and restricted from any use other than viewing in Apeer. This restriction can be released at any time by the owner of the file.
Are Apeer sessions private?
Yes — Apeer sessions are by invitation only.
Can I invite non-subscribers as “guests” to an Apeer session?
Yes — subscribers may invite others as “guests” who can join and collaborate in your session but cannot initiate or join other sessions. No additional charges apply.
Can someone be in a session with me without my knowledge?
No — when you are in an Apeer session, each participant’s presence is visually indicated in the session bar at the bottom of the Apeer window.
Does an Apeer session require a host?
No — once an Apeer session is created, anyone can leave or join the session (by invitation only) at any time.

SHARING

Are there file-size limitations when using Apeer to share files with others?
No — there are no technical limitations. However, there may be practical considerations, such as your network speed. Apeer generally operates as fast as your network connection. So the time required to send and receive files with others in Apeer ultimately depends upon network speed.
When sharing files with others in Apeer, are the files actually sent?
Yes — Apeer sends (not streams) the full file to all participants in the session.
Are files shared in Apeer viewable and playable by all participants?
Yes — provided they are supported file types (see below).
Can files shared in Apeer be saved by the recipients?
Yes and No — by default files shared in Apeer may be saved locally by all recipients. However, an Apeer user may change session preferences at any time so that future files sent are locked (encrypted) and unable to be saved locally by the recipients.
Does Apeer store my files on a server?
No — the Apeer servers only transmit files between and among users.
Can unsupported file types be shared in Apeer?
Yes — any file can be shared in Apeer, but only supported file types can be viewed and played in Apeer.
